Screening is possible before cancer develops. When a malignancy already exists, early detection leads to increased survival, better prognosis, and quality of life.

International guidelines and the American Cancer Society (ACS) suggest that screening tests should be carried out from the age of 45, without a family history of colorectal cancer.

Signs and
Symptoms

While these are not usually immediate symptoms, they do appear in the presence of a cancerous tumor.

The main signs and symptoms are:

  • Blood in or on your stool that can frequently be mistaken for hemorrhoidal disease.
  • Change in bowel habits.
  • Persistent abdominal distention or strip-shaped stool.
  • Cramps, abdominal pain, aches that don’t go away
  • Appetite and weight loss.
  • Weakness.
